The Milky Way core rising in a clear night sky, a real long-exposure astrophotograph

Dark Sky

Private Astrophotography Session

A private, small-group session for guests who want to actually shoot the sky — a tracking mount, rental camera bodies, and a next-morning walkthrough of the RAW files.

Duration
4 hours, by arrangement — plus an optional next-morning RAW review
Group size
1–4 guests, private booking only
Best season
New moon, low-humidity nights (best November–February)

Included: Motorized tracking mount, optional camera/lens rental, staff astronomer guidance, next-morning RAW file walkthrough

This one is built for guests who arrive with (or want to borrow) real gear rather than just watch. We set up a motorized equatorial tracking mount on the observation lawn, away from the group stargazing sessions, and our staff astronomer — who also handles the property’s own night photography — walks you through polar alignment, exposure settings for star fields versus the Milky Way core, and the specific quirks of shooting at this site’s humidity and elevation.

We keep two camera bodies and a small set of fast wide-angle lenses available to rent for guests who didn’t bring their own, though most serious astrophotographers bring their own body and just rent the tracking mount and a dark-sky consult. Sessions are capped at four guests specifically so everyone gets real time on the mount rather than watching someone else shoot for three hours.

The next morning we run an optional 45-minute walkthrough over coffee, looking at the previous night’s RAW files together — what the alignment and settings actually produced, what to adjust next time, and (for guests staying multiple nights) a second session that applies what came out of that conversation.
